Ingrown Toenail

An ingrown toenail is a common condition and is generally when a toenail that is curved and has grown into the skin, which can happen with or without an infection. Patients with an ingrown toenail report feelings of pain on the corners of or the entire toenail itself. 

This condition can be caused by a number of factors, such as: 

• Excessively Tight Shoes
• Nail Injuries
• Improper trimming of nails
• Deformed thick nails caused by fungal infections 

The most common reported cause of ingrown toenails that are seen in the clinic are injuries to the nail, which can happen as a result of stubbing the toe into a hard surface, excessive weight dropped or placed onto the toe, or could just become ingrown without a specific cause.
